This is a career advancement program for licensed Certified Nurses Assistants (CNAs), Home Health Aides (HHAs), or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). If you are not licensed as a CNA, HHA or EMT, this program is available for you as a Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician.
The Patient Care Technician program at Health Training Center can be completed in approximately 15 weeks. For the first 12 weeks of clinical training, students will be provided instruction on Introduction to Healthcare, CPR, EKG Techniques, and Phlebotomy Techniques. Following the classroom experience, each student will complete a three week externship where they will get the opportunity to use their skills in a real-life setting in the field. After their successful completion of the program, students should be prepared to work in an entry-level position in a physician’s office, clinic, hospital, laboratory, or other medical setting.
A Patient Care Technician works closely with physicians in conjunction with nurses to ensure quality patient care. It is the job of the Patient Care Technician to provide basic patient care while accommodating the individual needs of each patient.
Certification is the next step after completing the Patient Care Technician program at Health Training Center. Not only does certification tell employers that you are qualified with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide exceptional care to your patients, it also shows that you are dedicated to being the best allied health professional you can be as you advance in your career.
After successfully completing our Phlebotomy Technician program (including externship), graduates will be eligible to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) national exam, become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPhT), and take the national certification exam to become a Certified EKG Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Center for Competency Testing.

The externship is a required part of the Patient Care Technician program at Health Training Center. It is required because real-world, hands-on experience is essential to future success in the allied health field. For our students, it's an opporunity to use the variety of skills they have learned in the classroom, and for our employer partners, it's a chance to evaluate the skills and knowledge of the students as they finish the program and before they enter the field as healthcare professionals. Each student is placed in a healthcare facility by Health Training Center and receives support throughout the process.
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is almost identical to a Cardio Phlebotomy Technician. Both are cross-trained in the fundamentals of Phlebotomy and EKG. To be eligible to work as a PCT, one must have successfully completed prior training as a CNA/HHA and/or EMT along with PCT training. There are many responsibilities required of a Patient Care Technician. A PCT is responsible for providing basic patient care including bathing, feeding, and providing catheter care. They must also acquire, distribute, and administer patient supplies, perform safety checks, ensure cleanliness of patient rooms, accommodate special needs of patients, monitor vital signs, obtain EKG readings, operate the EKG machine, check quality of recorded data, perform venipuncture procedures, and ensure infection control.
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is mainly focused on working closely with patients, in conjunction with nurses. PCTs help perform basic care for patients. PCT opportunities can be found urgent care facilities, outpatient clinics, emergency centers, cardiology centers, rehabilitations centers, and nursing care facilities.
Certification is the process by which a non-governmental association or agency grants recognition to an individual who has met certain predetermined qualifications specified by that association or agency.
While certification is optional it is highly recommended as most employers require it. The American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and the NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) offers testing that awards the Certified Cardio Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Certified Patient Care Technicians. Certified Cardio Phlebotomy Technicians/PCT's must obtain continuing education credits or complete certification management programs to maintain their status. Attaining certification through the ASPT is a great way to show your dedication to your profession as well as your professionalism. You will be able to present your certification to potential employers, making you a more desirable candidate for any health care position.
The ASPT examination can be scheduled at aspt.org. Health Training Center is affiliated with ASPT and proctors the exam for ASPT twice per year. We will notify graduates up to one year after graduation of the exam dates. The fee to apply for and take the exam is $90.
Yes. The Patient Care Technician program at Health Training Center concludes with a 120 hour, full time Externship for all students. The classroom, lab, and Externship are all necessary portions of the program and must be successfully completed in order to receive a certficate.

The Medical Assistant program at Health Training Center can be completed in just 20 weeks. The program provides instruction on the clinical skills needed to work in entry-level positions in a variety of medical settings. Our students receive instruction on Phlebotomy, EKG, and clinical medical assisting techniques.
The EKG Technician program at Health Training Center can be completed in just 8 weeks. Students will be instructed on how to operate and adjust EKG heart monitors, understand the results of the electrocardiogram (EKG) recording, and perform CPR. A graduate of this program should be prepared to work in an entry-level position in a variety of medical settings. The EKG Technician program requires two classes and can also be taken in combination with Phlebotomy or as part of the Medical Assistant Certificate.
The Health Training Center Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician program can be completed in just 15 weeks. The program focuses on cross-training students in Phlebotomy and EKG techniques. Graduates of this program may become Clinical Medical Assistants by completing one additional course and the Medical Assistant externship. Graduates of this program should be prepared for entry-level job opportunities in a variety of medical settings.
The Phlebotomy Technician program at Health Training Center can be completed in just 11 weeks. The program provides instruction on the correct ways to draw blood in order than students complete the program prepared to work in entry-level positions in a variety of medical settings. Our students receive instruction on topics such as venipuncture procedures, specimen collection, blood collection, body systems, infection Control, and skin puncture techniques.
