This is a career advancement program for a licensed CNA, HHA or EMT who can advance to a better job by completing this Certificate. Our program consists of cross-training students in Phlebotomy and EKG techniques. The greatest number of job opportunities for Patient Care Technicians are in elder-care nursing facilities, general medical and surgical hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories and some larger private doctors' offices. This program consists of 3 required classes. Upon successful completion of the academic classes, students will be provided a 120 hour Phlebotomy externship. Graduates of this program can become a Clinical Medical Assistant by completing one additional class and the MA externship.
If you are not licensed as a CNA, HHA or EMT, this program is available for you as a Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician.
PCT’s play a vital role in many healthcare environments, including various positions in hospitals performing EKGs, basic medical, lab and exam procedures, drawing blood and providing basic patient care.
High school diploma or GED completion and CNA, HHA or EMT license/certificate.
Upon successful course completion, you will be prepared to take the National Certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (www.aspt.org) and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (www.ncctinc.com). In addition, you will be prepared to take the National Certfication exam to become a Certified Patient Care Technician through the National Center for Competency Testing (www.ncctinc.com). We proctor the exams several times a year at our classroom locations.
